Tasmanian Health Service Healthwest is located on Tasmania’s rugged West Coast

Healthwest services are unique, with  one hub  located at West Coast District Hospital providing Sub Acute Care,  Residential Aged Care services, Emergency Care and Community Health. Rosebery Community Health Centre provides Community Health, Commonwealth Community Aged Care Services – Home Care Packages and Commonwealth Home Support Program. Both Centre’s provided Adult Day Centres for the communities.

Nurses are able to experience a range of different services and for new and emerging nurses Healthwest offers a launching pad for nursing careers. Staff Development opportunities, Advanced life Support in a Graduate year for example demonstrates the opportunity for professional growth and development, being exposed to both Commonwealth Aged Care Standards &  National Safety and Quality Standards in one service is exceptional.

Added to the outstanding exposure and experience in a range of different service models is the opportunity to live the life on the magnificent Tasmanian west coast with world famous untouched wilderness, stunning national parks with rugged mountains, lakes, rain forest, crystal clear waterways and  wild coastal beaches and landmarks.  Historic convict settlement and the rich mining history are renowned tourist destinations.

Adding all this up to be a Nursing adventure second to none.

That winding road to Healthwest is also a barrier to the recruitment and retention of staff, what with the juggling of rosters and good will of the staff to deliver a service that strives to encompass in some ways the elements of nursing pathways to excellence, shared decision making, quality outcomes for our patients/ clients. A place where every nurse can enjoy a positive working environment that values and support nurses to be the best they can be.
