Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards

We are pleased to advise the Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards are being held again in 2021.

The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution nurses and midwives make individually and/or collectively to the people they care for. The Awards recognise the outstanding professional accomplishments made by nurses and midwives within the public hospitals, the community, public health and primary health care sectors of Tasmania through their practice.

The Awards recognise nurses and midwives for their:

  • Excellence in practice,
  • Contribution to the delivery of safe, quality care which is evidence based and person centred, and,
  • Leadership and the significant role they play in shaping and delivering a high standard of care within Tasmania’s public healthcare system

Nominations for the 2021 Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards are now open.

Awards Ceremony

In the evening after the Symposium, the 2021 Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards will be held, and the recipients celebrated at a dazzling event.  Book your tickets to the awards via the Award Ceremony booking page.

Award Categories

This Excellence Award acknowledges a newly graduated registered nurse, enrolled nurse or registered midwife who demonstrates exceptional commitment to the provision of quality, safe and compassionate care to consumers.

This nurse or midwife has a drive to succeed and embraces learning opportunities to further their own professional development. The early career nurse or midwife should demonstrate they can apply their new knowledge and skills as a safe practitioner, while working within their scope of practice, level of competence; and seeking help when needed.

The early career nurse or midwife leader is a professional who has worked 12 months (or less).

Please describe why you think this nurse or midwife deserves to be recognised for this honour. As a guide, consider some of the following questions:

  • How has this early career nurse or midwife demonstrated practice worthy of recognition?

This Excellence Award acknowledges a registered nurse, enrolled nurse or registered midwife who displays leadership in health, the profession, and/or the community and contributes to shaping health care service delivery and policy to improve the outcomes of the Tasmanian Health Service and/or the Department of Health.

The nurse or midwife is a positive role model and they display leadership which significantly contributes to excellence in nursing and/or midwifery practice. They are highly regarded as a future leader in their field.

This Excellence Award will be presented to a nurse or midwife who has displayed leadership in:

  • a research program
  • a quality improvement activity
  • a project or change management activity
  • new or existing nursing or midwifery knowledge in health, the professions, and/or the community
  • a new leadership role

The nurse or midwife is an excellent role model who contributes to advancing the standards of nursing and/or midwifery practice by promoting continuous quality improvement.

Their leadership will have informed, inspired, and influenced system change, practice, and the delivery of quality health care to the Tasmanian community. They are highly regarded for their expertise and are recognised amongst their peers as a passionate, driven, and visionary leader.  They are an outstanding role model for nurses and midwives.

Team Excellence in Practice (Self-nomination allowed for this category)

This Excellence Award acknowledges a team of nurses and/or midwives who provide a service/ program/ study that benefits consumers and/or the Tasmanian community.

The team of two or more nurses or midwives demonstrate an exceptional group effort to advance clinical care and the consumer experience.  All members demonstrate excellence in their roles, and they contribute to achieving positives outcomes for consumers and the team.

This Excellence Award will be presented to the team that:

  • Demonstrates their extraordinary commitment to person centred care
  • Create innovative and evidence-based practice models that improve health outcomes
  • Contributes to the development of others within and outside of the team
