On behalf of the Committee, we invite you to submit an abstract for presentation at the 2021 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium.

The theme of this year’s symposium ‘POWER, PASSION and POSSIBILITIES’ recognises the power of the nursing and midwifery professions, celebrates our passion for the work we do, and explores the possibilities available to us.

Submissions must include a 250-word abstract. The abstracts will be assessed by the symposium committee for quality and applicability to the overall symposium theme ‘POWER, PASSION and POSSIBILITIES’ and the below sub-themes.

Submissions are due by Monday 5 July 2021.

The team at the Office of the Chief Nurse and Midwife welcome enquiries from new presenters. The team can provide advice on how to prepare an abstract submission, create a presentation and deliver it with confidence. They can be contacted on (03) 6166 1570.

“The Power Within” 

This sub-theme explores how we can use our internal power to explore, discover and create new opportunities for our profession and the broader health care system.

“Making the Impossible Possible”

This sub-theme showcases what is possible when we harness our internal power and make the seemingly impossible possible.

“Passion and Potential”

This sub-theme celebrates what is possible when the passion for our work is combined with the potential we hold within.

“The Power of Partnerships”

This sub-theme explores the power of partnerships across the spectrum of midwifery practice.

This sub-theme encourages and welcomes abstracts from:

Abstracts for this sub-theme may explore the following:

  • New models of care
  • Service delivery initiatives
  • Collaborative working relationships
You are required to note a preferred presentation format.
The committee may request that you consider an alternative format.
Presentations will be allocated to the program taking into account author preference and balance of the program.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

  • 15 minutes in duration, plus 5-minutes for question time.

STATIC POSTERS

  • A0 portrait size poster that will be displayed for the duration of the symposium.

ABSTRACT DETAILS

For each abstract you submit you will be asked to enter the following information:

  • Presentation title
  • Preferred presentation format (oral or poster)
  • Sub-theme
  • Name/s of author/s
  • Affiliation/s of author/s
  • Indicate the presenter
  • Short biography of the presenter/s
  • Abstract (maximum 250 words)

TITLE

A descriptive presentation title of up to fifteen words; please only capitalise the first word and proper nouns in your title.

AUTHORS

The names, professions, organisations, suburbs, states and email addresses (optional) for each author. Indicate the presenting author in bold.

ABSTRACT

An abstract of 250 words that provides sufficient details to assess the content of your proposed presentation.

Abstracts are due by the 5 July 2021. The receipt of submissions will be confirmed by an acknowledgement email. All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified by 30 July 2021.

PRESENTATION and POSTER abstract submission procedure:

  1. Prepare your abstract
    Prepare your 250 word abstract text. This applies for all submissions
  2. Enter your contact details
    Go to the Presentation Portal (above) to enter your contact details
  3. Enter Presenter and Author Details
    Enter names and affiliations of the presenter and authors. Also enter brief biography of the presenter(s), 50-100 words is sufficient
  4. Enter your Abstract Details
    ‘Cut and Paste’ the abstract text (250 words) into the relevant field in the Presentation Portal

ABSTRACT REVIEW PROCESS

All abstracts received will be reviewed and selected by the symposium committee. They will determine if abstracts are accepted as oral or poster presentation format with consideration given to the author preference and program balance.

Authors (or the person submitting on behalf of the author) will be notified via email on a rolling basis regarding the status of their abstract.

PRESENTER REGISTRATION

It is mandatory for all presenters to register for the symposium and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenters will be required to register by the 1st October 2021 to be included in the symposium program.

Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

PRESENTATION FILES

Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.

Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the conference on a memory stick, where an audio-visual technician will load your presentation.

All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.

AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT

The session rooms will be equipped for the presentation of PowerPoint slides and include a data projector, computer with external speakers, lectern and microphone.
